AJAC EcoRun June 1st to 3rd

The Automotive Journalists Association of Canada’s (AJAC) annual EcoRun is now on. This event was designed to show off a variety of eco-friendly vehicles, including pure electrics, plug-in and conventional hybrids, hydrogen fuel cells, diesel-fuelled and highly-efficient gasoline options. The tour is from Toronto, through Belleville and Kingston and then on to Ottawa. The idea is to inform consumers of the various alternative options as well as providing accurate road testing fuel economy figures. They also use these real-world road conditions to test for the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. You can view last years report and more information here: http://www.ajac.ca/eco-run/

There are 27 different vehicles participating in this years run, including the tiny SMART fortwo Cabrio, the sporty 2017 Porsche 911 Carerra, Chevy Colorado Diesel, and the Lexus RX 450h, just to name a few. Toyota is included in this year’s event with 3 entries. The three vehicles representing Toyota are the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid, the 2016 Prius and the 2016 Mirai. This will be for most, the only time to see the hydrogen powered Mirai in Canada.

The 2016 Toyota Mirai is a hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle available in Japan, parts of Europe, and California. This model delivers 151 peak horsepower and up to 247 lb-ft of torque, with a range of approximately 480 km and a refill time of about five minutes. The Mirai’s fuel tank stores hydrogen, which is mixed with air in the fuel cell stack. This means the only emissions is water. The aerodynamic body is highlighted by LED headlamps and daytime running lights, front door handles and trunk lid, and 17” alloy wheels. Noise-reducing glass makes the interior quiet, featuring eight-way power adjustable front seats, heated seats for everyone, electronic push button start with Smart Key, a heated, power adjustable steering wheel with built-in multifunction controls, a premium audio system with navigation, and more. And as a Toyota, the Mirai also delivers the peace of mind of no-compromise safety, including eight airbags, Toyota Safety System , a back-up camera, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, and more.

The redesigned 2016 Toyota Prius sets a new styling and functionality standard. From its sporty exterior with bold character lines, to its high-tech interior featuring soft-touch materials and wrap-around dash design, to its lively, fun-to-drive handling, the Prius is more than Toyota’s ambassador for advanced motoring: It’s been completely reimagined, and it’s better than ever. The EcoRun test vehicle is the Prius Technology, enhanced with the Advanced Package.

The popular, built-in-Canada compact SUV meets the world’s most proven hybrid technology. The first-ever RAV4 Hybrid boasts a fresh, bold exterior. Its premium interior features soft-touch materials and plenty of room for friends and stuff. Under the hood, RAV4 Hybrid delivers the fun, energetic driving manners that have made RAV4 a popular choice and the added confidence of all-wheel drive – plus the best fuel efficiency rating of any SUV offered in Canada at just 7.2L/100km (city/highway combined). What’s not to love? The EcoRun test vehicle is the RAV4 Hybrid Limited, enhanced with the Technology Package.
