We’ve still got some warm days and weeks before the autumn chill sets in. September in the Brampton area is plenty hot with a nice variety of stage shows, family fun, and community-minded fundraisers.

What follows is a “six-pack” of events to look out for in the area this month.

Here’s a list of things to do in the Brampton area in September, 2015.

Events, Family Fun, and Culture:

  • Labour Day Picnic
    • When and where: Sept. 5, Noon-4 p.m., Heart Lake Conservation Area, 10818 Heart Lake Road, Brampton.
    • What to look for: The Peel Regional Labour Council is sponsoring this annual event, with food, games and various activities for all ages.
    • How much: Admission is free.
  • Parkinson SuperWalk 2015
    • When and where: Sept. 13, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., South Fletcher’s Sportsplex, 500 Ray Lawson Blvd., Brampton.
    • What to look for: This family-friendly run/walk raises money for people afflicted with Parkinson’s. Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. The 5k run begins at 11 a.m., with the 2k walk kicking off at 11:30 a.m.
    • How much: The event is a fundraiser, so donations are welcome.
  • Heart Lake Dragon Boat Festival
    • When and where: Sept. 19, Heart Lake Conservation Area, 10818 Heart Lake Road, Brampton.
    • What to look for: Teams of 20 will row their dragon boats in the Heart Lake waters, competing for glory and a good cause. Each team is guaranteed three races; proceeds support environmental restoration projects in the Toronto-area Etobicoke and Mimico Creeks watersheds.
    • How much: Teams pay a registration fee of up to $1,000. Individual paddlers can view the event website to see details on how to register for the event.

Concerts and Stage Shows

  • AC/DC
    • When and where: Sept. 10, 7 p.m., Downsview Park, 35 Carl Hall Road., Toronto.
    • What to expect: The Australian hard rock outfit is still kicking out the jams in its fifth decade together. With an arsenal of songs including “Thunderstruck,” “You Shook Me All Night Long,” and “T.N.T.,” AC/DC has a lot of epic rock to sink your teeth into.
    • How much: Tickets are $115.50.
  • Sloan
    • When and where: Sept. 11, 8 p.m., Massey Hall, 178 Victoria Street, Toronto.
    • What to expect: The Toronto-based power-pop band is still banging out their signature high-octane shows, this time at one of the more well-respected live music venues in North America.
    • How much: $18.94-$29.50.
  • Just for Laughs – Toronto’s Comedy Festival
    • When and where: Sept. 25-Oct. 3, various times, Sony Centre for the Performing Arts., 1 Front Street East, Toronto.
    • What to expect: A deep lineup of stand-ups will grace the stage as headliners in the annual comedy festival, including Trevor Noah of the “The Daily Show,” Chris Hardwick of “Nerdist” and “Talking Dead” fame, rising star Hannibal Buress, and comedy veteran Bill Burr. Other comedians are performing on various stages across town, click the event link for more details.
    • How much: Tickets vary, but typically range between $35 and $155.
