Age Affects Condition 

Mileage tells you how far a car has been driven, but not how old its components are. Rubber seals, belts, fluids, and tires all degrade with time, even if the car isn’t being driven often. A low-mileage vehicle that has sat unused for long periods might need more maintenance than expected. In contrast, a slightly older, higher-mileage vehicle that’s been regularly used and cared for may still offer excellent reliability.

Maintenance Matters, Too

A well-maintained vehicle with higher mileage can often be a better purchase than a low-mileage car that has been neglected. Regular oil changes, tire rotations, brake service, and inspections keep a car running smoothly well past the 100,000 km mark. Ask for service records whenever possible, as they’re a great indicator of how the previous owner treated the vehicle.

Driving Conditions Also Have An Impact

Not all kilometres are created equal. Highway driving is generally easier on a vehicle than stop-and-go city traffic. Highway miles cause less wear on the brakes and transmission, and the engine runs more consistently at optimal temperatures. So, a higher-mileage car used mainly on the highway might be in better shape than a lower-mileage vehicle used primarily in urban areas.
